As with most wheels there are limits to functional speed. For most omni wheels this is a steady walking speed. Well balanced precision wheels with high impact capability can increase this. However, harmonic resonance can become an issue. This depends on load, size, amount of rollers and the spacing thereof, all relative to the speed.
The perpendicular speed limit is relatively lower the rollers have a much smaller diameter. Depending on the construction, heat loading may play a roll here too. The bigger the axle and the more efficiently heat is dissipated the greater the durability and functional speeds.
Thanks to the novel nature of the omni wheels this can however be mitigated by orienting the wheel off the angle of travel, thereby distributing the load across all rollers thanks to a natural rotation while traveling forward.
