What is an omni wheel?

THE BASICS

An omni-wheel is a wheel that can move directly in every direction on the horizontal.

I can do this thanks to the location of one or multiple rows of rollers around the periphery of the primary wheel.

This design allows the wheel to move forward or backward like any unidirectional wheel. We call this the primary rolling direction.

The peripheral rollers allow the wheel to move directly sideways or perpendicular to the primary rolling direction. We call this the secondary rolling direction.

The omni wheel allows you to combine these two movements and to move at any angle on the horizontal plane.
