OMNI-SENSE

The OMNI-SENSE story begins with chef Ian Edwards, who, frustrated with the high wear rate of the ball tip, was looking for an alternative. That chance discussion led to a prototype that Ian tested for many months during which it performed as intended.
 
Not only that, it turned out that the tip did several other things beyond outlasting the ball tip.
It was easier to use as it rolled not only sideways, as does the ball tip, but forwards as well.
Also, it emits a sound profile that allows the user to understand on what surface they are and even, for some, the shape of the immediate surrounding.
It also turned out that it was easier to use as a constant contact navigation tool.
 
As the feedback firmed up, the trials were expanded, only to find similar positive feedback. Weighing in at 100g, roughly the same as the ball tip, the constant contact method of negotiating the path ahead has never been easier.
 
Today the word about the easy and effective use of the OMNI-SENSE has spread around the world. OMNIA is an Australian manufacturer of multi- directional omni wheels and a leading innovator in their manufacture and use.

In the video, Ian Edwards, the Blind Chef, reflects on using the tip for more than 12 months. Indeed, for more than 12 months he has only been using one tip in an effort to see how long it lasts. According to him, it is barely worn. He expects that during the same time he would have gone through 3-4 of the ball tips.

The OMNI-SENSE is also easy to maintain. It can be taken apart completely by slipping the wheels over the axle ends. The parts are all polymer and very corrosion resistant. The unit can be freely rinsed under running water, washed in the sink, or even put in the dishwasher.
